CPS leads the Field! Remote Learning Survey Results
By CPS Teaching Fellow John Seely
The first article I wrote back in September looked at how CPS was adapting to the challenges of moving all classes online. This month, a report was released by the University[1] which presented the findings of how students were responding to online learning. Among other items, it asked students about how well they felt they were being taught online; how satisfied they were with their courses, and compared student responses from different schools, including CPS.
The good news is that CPS consistently led the field demonstrating our dedication to being leaders and innovators in teaching. Up to 60% of CPS students who had taken online courses before, said their experience at CPS was better, and that the teaching methods used were engaging.
Blended learning (a mixture of face-to-face and online studying) was ranked by students as being most effective for student learning, followed by face-to face learning. Every student in NUZYP gets to spend 30 minutes a week talking with their personal tutor about their lessons and assignments, and other issues that might affect their studies. Around the same amount of time is spent receiving feedback on the Research Writing Project, which forms the bulk of assessments in semester 1. This is on top of the 8 to 10 hours of face-to-face class every week.
If that isn’t enough, all CPS students have the option to get further individual face-to-face help from the Academic Learning Center, while students who have a particular need are given even more personalized tuition. In fact, the report shows that CPS provides more support from instructors on how to successfully learn online than any other school!
And over 90% of CPS students who responded had a positive view of the feedback they received on their assignments — again the highest in any school.
And are we happy with these results? Of course, but we are not resting on our laurels: we are always seeking to improve.
