Why do you need to join NUFYP student council?
We are happy to present story of our former student and NUFYP student council member Shugyla Orynbassarova.
“Hello! My name is Shugyla, I was a member of the NUFYP Student Council in 2019-2020.
In August, during the orientation week, I learned that there is a student council consisting of foundation students. I immediately decided that I should join! In early September, recruitment was announced to the Student Council. I left an application, wrote a motivation letter, went through an interview and received a letter about the successful completion. Getting to know other members, presenting the Student Council to other foundation students, meetings with Rachel and Kalamkas, that’s how we started. Our main tasks as a student representative were: to help Foundation students adapt to university life through academic and cultural events, coverage and work on their issues with the administration, and we also participated in such serious issues as BALEAP and subject content changes with the director of CPS. The Student Council provides good opportunities for personal development and acquisition of soft skills. The main thing is to use these opportunities effectively. Therefore, I always tried to be active and invested with all my heart in the work of the Student Council. It was a pleasure to work in SC, thanks to this, I mastered the event organization, negotiations with strangers, how to get out of unexpected situations, solve financial and technical issues, work in a team, improved my time management (combine work in SC and study sometimes it was not easy). The Student Council is an ideal place for those who are not indifferent to holding events, solving academic student issues, in general, for those who want to be useful to society and contribute to the development of the university (add value to university life).
Summing up, Student Council is an integral part of my foundation student life, because working here made my student life interesting and colorful.
My advice to those joining SC is to be curious and don’t just work in your department and position. Be proactive. For example, write text and edit photos with PR managers, work on financial issues with treasure, negotiate with strangers, be creative on events and much more (there is enough work). I wish you all the best in the new academic year!”
